Abstract
The patient, who was used in this clinical research, is a soldier, who worked at the National Guard. This took place after he came back home from Iraq in the area of the Sunni Triangle. He had been working at the area for around 12 months, in military combat. He has had two children and was happily married, as before, he worked as a salesman at an automobile industry. He’s life seemed to be well, as he had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them. A tragic event, while in combat, is what made him develop the symptoms of PTSD. Most of his fellow soldiers were extremely injured, while others lost their lives (Friedman, 2006). This is due to the many dangerous situations, which they were exposed to. The worst event that ever happened to him was that he could not save his best friend, who died after being shot by a sniper. Also, the death of innocent children and women caused him great grief, as did not save them. Since he arrived in the United States, most times he is over the edge, irritable as well as anxious. He believes that his family is not safe to the point whereby, he has to sleep with a pistol next to him. He has demonstrated many symptoms of a person who has PTSD. He needs to receive the needed treatment before this issue becomes too difficult to handle (Israel & Hay, 2006).
Methods
The method used to diagnose the patient is through conducting a clinical study. The patient should be taken in for treatment of a psychiatric nature. This study shows that there are many stressors, which occur in war zone areas. Veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan have experienced this in great numbers, thus the reason why they are diagnosed with PTSD. They tend to experience tragic events, which make them feel helpless (Friedman, 2006). When their colleagues are injured or killed, they suffer emotionally. There are many incidents, which make them prone to developing PTSD, such as death, bombs, ambushes, attacks, among others. The most important methods in this research are through psychiatry sessions, which the patient attended.
Purpose
The purpose of the study is to find out if the patient is suffering from PTSD and to what extent it has progressed. According to the Models of psychology, there is fear known as classic Pavlovian, which is shown by soldiers suffering from PTSD. The theories, which can explain the behaviour, are known as the theory of emotional processing and the theory of two factors. Often, events such as assaults and roadside bombs cause a stimulus, which is unconditioned as well as traumatic. This, in turn, causes an emotional response, which is unconditioned as well as post-traumatic. The soldier then expresses symptoms such as horror, helplessness and fear frequently (Friedman, 2006).
Findings
It was found out that the patient is suffering from PTSD after he has almost all the symptoms. The history of trauma the patients have ever experienced should be known. The patient is at a high risk of committing suicide, being involved in dangerous habits such as taking drugs and even being a threat to others. It is necessary that he receives treatment as soon as possible. This is in the form of medication and through the help of a psychiatrist (Friedman, 2006). The friends and family should also give support as this is sure to ensure that they become well. The limitation of this study is that only one participant was used, which does not make the results conclusive. More participants who had experienced other wars should have been involved in this study.
