The second one was that it helped to instil innovative community patrolling objectives by solving problems disregarding the race. The disadvantage was that these junior officers would use excessive force in the community. They would do this to show their capabilities to their seniors while under supervision. This would result in violence caused by police brutality from the community.

The second style was old-style supervision. This style instilled the use of force in the community. The senior officers believe that junior officers should do all the work for them, making arrests, dispersing protestors, and doing all the paperwork. The junior officers do not have much say in anything and should follow set rules and regulations. The seniors will take stern actions to officers who do not comply. The supervisors are not willing to work as a team; rather, they would be willing to support policies outlined to enforce more aggressiveness to the junior officers. They do believe in military tactics of “chain of command.”

The third style was innovative supervision. The supervisors are more oriented in working as a team. They encourage friendship among colleagues. They are determined to see their junior officers appreciate the new set innovations. They are open to community development projects working with their subordinates. They are concerned about the wellbeing of the community enforcing the regulations while learning the community’s needs and expectations.

The fourth style was the understanding of supervisors. These supervisors shield their juniors from constant critics and disciplinary action imposed on police misconduct. They offer advice to the junior officers and guide them on how to do things differently, but they are not keen on paperwork meant to be done by the subordinates. They often do not get along with their seniors since their work is to shield the junior officers from “harm.” They mostly regard their subordinate highly compared to other supervisors.

The Most Effective Leadership Style According to the Writer

Active supervision is the most effective way of supervision. This is because the supervisors encourage the subordinates to complete the paperwork independently.
